Illinois governor signs Reproductive Health Act

Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed the Reproductive Health Act on Wednesday, calling it the nation’s most progressive law for reproductive health care freedom.

Supporters said it ensures women have the right to make whatever reproductive decisions they want.

Opponents of the measure have said it makes abortion a “fundamental right,” and goes too far.

Report: Illinois ranks in the middle nationally for working dads

With Fathers’ Day just around the corner, consumer finance website WalletHub ranked the best and worst states for dads.

Illinois came in just above the middle of the pack at No. 21. The highest ranked subcategory was daycare quality, where Illinois ranked No. 7. Illinois ranked No. 47 for the unemployment rate for dads with children younger than 18.

Health officials issue blue-green algae warning

State health officials are warning of blue-green algae on bodies of water throughout the state.

With the temperatures beginning to rise, water conditions are ideal for the organisms to thrive.

While some blue-green algae are harmless, state officials say some can produce toxic chemicals that can cause sickness or other health effects in people and pets.
