President Jackie Sapienza called to order the La Salle County Retired Teachers Association meeting Feb. 4 at Dickinson House in Oglesby.
Present were Rosemary Boggio, Mary Trovero, Alice Joop, Cheryl Templeton, Judy Ilgen, Janie Hoffmann, Wanda Lent, Pauline Cashman, Donna Inman, Jan Kaufman and Conrad Spirrison.
Ilgen presented the minutes of the Oct. 22 meeting, which were approved. Templeton presented the treasurer’s report, which also was approved. The membership committee reported 448 members. Joop discussed upcoming programs. Hoffmann and others discussed updates in the process of preparing the newsletter.
Discussion covered correspondence, books for the Little Library and the Goodwill donation, February Breakfast meeting at Sunfield Restaurant in Ottawa on Feb. 25, the 2019 goal of a newsletter revamp and the general membership meeting at Festivities Unlimited in Ottawa on Monday, April 22.
The annual winter breakfast meeting at Sunfield Restaurant in Ottawa will be Monday, Feb. 25. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with breakfast at 9 a.m. The program is expected to be completed by around 11:30 a.m. Doug Strand, the Illinois Retired Teachers Association-endorsed candidate for the Teachers Retirement System trustee position, and Nathan Mihalich, IRTA director of membership and marketing, will be guest speakers.
Registration for the April 22 meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the meeting beginning at 9 a.m. There is no lunch, but coffee and doughnuts will be available. Speakers will be TRS Director of Outreach Richard Frankenfeld and IRTA Benefits representative Nancy Kramer. Regional Superintendent Chris Dvorak also will speak. The $2 fee is payable at the restaurant.
